Il Clan dei Ricciai

A trade, a community, a sea: the story of people “rebaptised by the sea”.

Pietro Mereu durante un momento legato a Il Clan dei Ricciai

Il Clan dei Ricciai enters a trade and a community bound to the sea. Boat, cold, water, hands and sale tell a pact between people and territory.

«When I think of Il clan dei ricciai (The Clan of the Sea Urchin Hunters), I had to submit to certain rules dictated by the members of a closed community. In the end, I believe that a documentary always represents a dialogue between the author and the protagonist, the synthesis of which is the finished product.»

Verified recognitions in the master include the UCCA Prize at Biografilm and the Superdocs Award at Nòt Film Fest.

The documentary shines a spotlight on a marginal yet deeply human reality: that of the sea urchin fishermen of Cagliari. Pietro Mereu portrays a demanding trade and a social fabric that lives in the shadow of the city, restoring its dignity without falling into clichés.
