My story
People first. Then the film.
Fundamentally, I am a communicator.
Pietro Mereu

Biography
A path through writing, television and reality.

Pietro Mereu was born in Lanusei in 1972 and grew up in Ogliastra, inland Sardinia — the deepest matrix of his vision. He moved to Milan in 1999 and graduated in screenwriting from Civica Scuola di Cinema in 2003.
During his Italian television years he worked across La7, Magnolia, All Music and Mediaset. From 2004 to 2006 he wrote for Markette with Piero Chiambretti; in 2007 he worked in Rome at T9. Those years became a training ground in fast writing, television rhythm and popular communication.
In 2015 he founded ILEX Productions and began building an authorial path from research films to long-form documentary and cultural events. Sardinia ceased to be a backdrop and became a method: farmers, artisans, fishermen, centenarians and ordinary people observed without spectacle.
In 2020 he moved back to Sardinia. It was a choice, not an escape. Territory, Ogliastra and small villages returned to the centre of his way of observing and telling stories.
His works have travelled through Italian and international festivals. Sonaggios reached the 2025 San Francisco International Film Festival; Finding the Blue extends the dialogue between Sardinia and international longevity research. He is working on the documentary portrait of tenor Francesco Demuro, Il Re Cantore.
Small things
A detail, not a biography.
Pietro has worn a beard since his military service. During lockdown he shaved completely: some friends, running into him after months, barely recognised him.
Timeline
An essential chronology
«I often compare Sardinians to Native Americans: people able to carve out a whole environment in an almost hostile land, together with sobriety.»
